Garden School at the 24th Street

The Garden School Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating schoolyard gardens. These outdoor classrooms provide students opportunities to benefit from hands-on exposure to nature and the growing of food. The Garden School Foundation plans to design, install, and maintain teaching gardens (kitchen garden, central courtyard butterfly garden, and California native woodland) on the campus of the 24th Street Elementary School in Los Angeles. These gardens will be outdoor classrooms used to enhance required curriculum. Students will learn health-based nutrition through planting, harvesting, and preparing food. By documenting the process of developing these sustainable gardens and by setting an example, the Garden School Foundation will encourage other schools to do the same.
